For those on Social Media who celebrate today, 28th April, is Ed Balls Day.
Last year it was so important, he even baked a cake. But this year, while Mr Balls has so far ignored the event, #EdBallsDay is still trending on Twitter.
Sadly, our favourite jiving socialist economist has decided (according to the BBC and numerous other sources) not to run in the General Election. Which means no more giant keys in his future, and may mean that Ed Balls Day becomes less relevant, a bit like St Swithun’s Day and other named days we simply ignore now.
Balls’ defeat at the 2015 General Election was likened by many to the moment Michael Portillo lost Enfield Southgate in the 1997 General Election.
Balls, the former shadow chancellor who lost his Morley and Outwood seat at the 2015 general election, is currently a senior fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and visiting professor at the policy institute at King’s College London.
While he went on to star in Strictly Come Dancing, alongside Katya Jones, Ipswich residents perhaps best know him as the Chairman of Norwich City Football Club, always guaranteed to make him popular in Ipswich!
